Is the Universal Ball Cap (4th Main) needed when you install a KC Layne Warford -or does the Warford's input shaft support the back of the transmission??

You still need the 4th main ball cap at the rear of the engine. I use two gaskets at the rear of the engine/front of the Layne transmission. One on each side of the ball cap. That way you will have very little to no oil leaks at the engine fourth main. "BUT" because the ball at the front of the drive shaft and the u-joint is no longer getting oiled by oil leaking past the fourth main, it is "very important" to grease the ball at the u-joint very often. The "cup" at the back of the Layne transmission that mates up to the driveshaft ball is just the aluminum housing. So to keep wear to a minimum I try to almost "over grease the ball area.

Thanks Donnie & Erik. This one appears to be leaking oil/lube between the Kayne and the back of the transmission. New gaskets between both sides of the Ball Cap. Next step I guess is to decide whether it is oil or lube. Thanks again!!

Hi Brent

you might want to check if that Layne is vented. They tended to push lube out if not. There are old threads on this subject.

Also to add, do not over fill either as it will make them puke!
