1914 Running Board Support Bars? Standard?

Post by GJScholz » Mon Aug 05, 2019 11:49 am

Hello,

Are the running board support bars standard?

I have only seen them in this borrowed picture from this forum, but I'd like to know if they should be on the touring car.

Thanks!

I searched through the forums and couldn't find a previous discussion. Would you mind re-posting the conclusion or a link to the thread? It is a unique accessory and the people I have talked to have never seen it. It doesn't appear to be a farmer's field fix. Has anyone else seen them? I can post more pictures if interested.

(it is my car by the way)

Thanks
Matt

Matt, most likely an owner, dealer, aftermarket, or Blacksmith addition, not original. JMHO Dave
1925 mostly original coupe.

Pretty much a foregone conclusion that I am losing my mind. I cannot find it either (not my mind or the previous thread?). I know I saw it, could have sworn it was a couple weeks earlier than this one. Same question, exactly same photo. Three or four of our regulars had already given good answers, so I didn't add anything. Maybe I dreamed it?

Beautiful car by the way!

I have seen several era photos with similar bracing between the body and the running board. A few such pictures have been discussed on this forum in years past. Usually that was done by people that often carried a bunch of stuff on the running board, and often that lot of stuff was there in the photo.
If such bracing was on an original car? I think I would keep it that way. It would be part of the car's history and a story (however incomplete?) the car would tell. I do not think I would add such bracing to a car that didn't already have it.
But that is my opinion.

"Of all the things I have lost in my life? I miss my mind the most."

Actually, I think I lost my mind a long time ago. There must be at least three cars I lost that I miss more than my mind. Besides, sometimes being crazy is the most fun in life!

Thanks Wayne, good to know. I appreciate the info. I agree with leaving as original (possibly) but not necessary to add to a car without them.

I just realized that photo is from last years show at Fosterfields Farm in Morristown, NJ Good show of pre-32 cars. A few more pictures from this year here: https://mafcnj.org/portfolio-item/fosterfields-farms/

Cheers
Matt
