Some model T touring and roadsters used a sheetmetal brace that fit between the rear fender and splash shield to help with the rattling. When did they start using this brace and how long was it used? I know it wasn't used in 1913 but don't know when they started using them.

I would like a definitive answer to this myself. I am putting together my '15 runabout. Most, but not all, the original fenders and splash shields I have do have either the brackets, or at least the holes where a bracket was many years ago. Between them, I have four matching brackets, and intend to use them. I figure if all the pieces (even coming from maybe six different cars?) have them, the car should have them. Whether they were factory installed? Or after-market? I do not know. I do have a couple fenders that do not have any holes for these brackets, so that would indicate they may not have been factory, or at least not on all cars.

My guess would be most likely 1923. I put NOS fenders on my 1925, and the rear fenders to splash shields have them.

1915-1916

Similar in style to the late 1914 type; front bill, three rivets now used to secure the front fender iron bracket. Rear fenders were now curved to follow the wheel outline and have no crown. Bracket added between splash apron and rear fender.
