Enough play time for the TT. Needed some plumbing supplies from Emma Wharehouse. My boxes of fittings and 100 ft of pipe were in the back on the way home. A nice day for work while waiting on materials for another job. Hardly seems like work driving the old girl. 28 mile round trip with roads mostly to myself. Nice buckboard! Must be wash day?

Loaded and headed for home. I like the small feed mills scattered around the area.

I knew it was going to be a good trip to Emma. Two priming turns and got a free start in the barn!

Your correct Don. I was getting supplies for work but not working. Its a pleasure to drive and the Joe Bell motor never misses a lick. About 25 mph in straight drive is perfect. 35mph in overdrive but the whine from the Chicago gets annoying.

Great people at Emma Warehouse!! Is the older man still working in the cabinet shop on the west end of the building? When installing a new dishwasher i needed a custom built cabinet and all it took was a phone call to get it made perfect to our needs! Kind of a long drive but when you stop at the Essen Hause it is great! Bud.

I envy you guys who have rural roads that you can use with your Model T's to run errands.

Here, in the exponentially expanding northern edge of the Houston metro-mess, one tends to get stuck in little islands that are safe for T's and everything beyond that requires a trailer.

I'm stuck here until I can retire in 8 years....after that, I'd like to find something more old car friendly.

I moved to the old family farm years before I took up Model T driving, so the roads were not in my mind at the time. But becoming a T driver has made the wonderful rural roads a big factor in my appreciation of country life. If I travel southeast from home it's quite likely that I can make a round trip of over a hundred miles, and in a fifty mile stretch of it see perhaps one or two other vehicles. Even here close to town I can go almost anywhere without having to get on a high speed highway. I consider the mostly unpaved and uncrowded roads a delicious luxury.

In a few minutes, I'm headed out the door to negotiate I-59 into Houston and the Ship Channel area where all the refineries are. My daily commute is brutal and takes over an hour each way. The next few weeks are the worst of the year. It's insanely hot and humid and school just started, so everyone is back on the road after the summer, and they're grouchy.

Driving a T down a country road, over an old stone bridge. is the very definition of sublime by comparison.

But alas...off I go...into the fray...taking some small consolation that keeping these refineries open and running is critically important work.

I've reached the age when everything reminds me of something else, often from long ago. That comment reminds me of Dad. He was 38 when we got into the war, but he didn't enlist like his older brother and brother-in-law. He was a still operator at the Pathfinder refinery in Seal Beach. That was considered critical for the war effort.

My grandfather was also in his 30’s when the war started and guarded the Humble Oil refinery on horseback.

Everyone in the country played a role during that war and so did my little Model T. And, that’s the era and the look that I’m trying to preserve in it as I revive it.

Yet, we rib each other... "Look what I can do". I go down and out of the neighborwoods, left at the mailboxes and I hit a fray of 67 mph new road now until I can get off of it a half mile later. Yikes! I don't. Or, I turn right and get the hell out of Dodge (Long Beach) and Toodle.

Oh the pain of work! I have to go get horse feed this morning, woe is me ! My parents are here from Duanes State and I told Dad he had to ride with me in my old green farm truck. He said tell me when to get in, he is ready. Its her fist time going to the mill as its been the RPU job till now. I suppose I will have to take gravel and little two lane roads between the lakes with all those slow buggies holding up traffic. Geez aint life grand? As Duane says , rub rub. I may have to take a photo also.

What makes it worse is that although I live in a city, I'm the furthest thing from a city guy.
