Spindle differences

Post by 70shovelhead » Mon Aug 05, 2019 1:00 pm

Need to replace both spindles on the front of my 26 TT. Project. There are several choices of individual spindles and a couple of pairs on ebay, all 1920 and later. Will these work to replace mine? I am assuming the TT front end is the same as the car.

WOW !!.. $75-$85 for a used pair of spindles on eBay!! Bobs right ‘18-‘25 spindles is what you need. The ‘26-‘27 CARS used spindles that dropped the front end 1/2” - but not the Ton Trucks. I can send you a pair for less than half the eBay prices + shipping.

So I ran across a couple of left side spindles a friend gave me. The problem is I need to replace the right spindle due to worn out threads. My question is this. With regard to the geometry only(not concerned with casting numbers or machining for the tie rod arm) will a left spindle work on the right side. I did a retro fit today and I see (with the naked eye) no difference. Attached the tie rod and all moved as it should with no binding. What do the experts say? Will caster or camber be effected?

Spindles are right hand & left hand thread and MUST be installed so the threaded outer wheel bearing "loosens" when traveling in a forward direction - don't mix them up !!!

Received no emails Preston. I don’t know how to find PMs. Try gwhouse731@gmail.com if you’re still in need. I’d send a pic of what I’d mail you...george

Thanks for the replys George and RojaRacer. I had forgot about thread direction. I did have T Haven find a passenger side spindle, bearing and nut. Seems that this TT trucks rt spindle was replaced years ago with a 26-27 left side spindle(notice right hand threads). This explains why the threads are wore down.
