Hershey, test coils

Post by Larry e rutt » Sat Aug 31, 2019 4:07 pm

I live 45 minutes from Hershey..never been to the show... If I take my coils to the swap meet, will anybody be there to test them, and sell me rebuilt ones if needed ?

Mike Kosser is usually there. He can test them. I am sure someone else will bring others to sell

Larry, I will be at Hershey this year, Chocolate Field C2A 61 Demonstrating the ECCT coil tester and would be happy to test your coils for you. Testing is fast and easy, However, do not offer coil rebuilding services. I can adjust the points for you but may need to refer you to rebuilders if the point contacts are badly warn, pitted and or internal capacitors require replacement.

I always thought that someone testing/adjusting coils with a HCCT or ECCT at the show would be a money maker. $5 a coil or $15 a set?

Maybe a good fundraiser for the club/museum.

Dan

I would suspect that folks coming for adjustment will more than likely be bringing in original coils, hoping for a magic bullet for their problems. Those few recently rebuilt coils with good capacitors and relatively undamaged points would be fairly easy to put back in form, but like I said, I'd bet they would be the rare exception.

Hopefully someone will prove me wrong after Hershey, but I doubt it.

Scott, that is a pretty good summary of what typically happens. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to revive old crusty coil points until near the end of the day when things get slow. Lots of folks stopping by to see the E-Timer, I-Timer and ECCT; discussing or demonstrating how they work. Best of all, many satisfied customers stopping by to say hello and share wonderful stories of how much they enjoy engine performance now.
