Do any of you guys have any vinyl graphics on you T ? How well do they hold up over the yrs ? I'm wanting to add something on each door of my Roadster when I get it back together in honor of my good friend who gave me the car. I'd much rather have it hand lettered but I'm sure that would be lots of $$$$$$.

You might consider magnetic signs that sick to the doors. They look good and can be removed or changed easily.

FWIW, like most things there's a range of quality tied to cost in vinyl films. "High performance" films actually have performed better than paint. I base this on nearly 30 years of making "stickers" after a previous 30 doing hand lettering with paint and brush. The problem will be to find a geezer who can still operate a quill - cost may be higher, everyone and their dog has a vinyl cutter these days. The suggestion to use a magnetic sign is a good one, although that stuff can present its own set of problems and drawbacks.

Had a local vinyl sign company make this adhesive sticker from scan, they installed, as I usually get air bubbles under those decals

Done in 2004 and still looks like new today.

Thanks Rick that's just up the road ! I'd rather have vinyl than a magnetic sign...more pleasing to the eye.

As stated by others, a good quality is key. Would loved to have these hand done, but those with the talent are hard to find in my neck of the woods.

All the Best,

Hank

Thom...if you knew the story of this car and my late friend I think you'd understand why I want the graphics. And as you said...it is my car.

Many years ago, I used to make adhesive backed signs from rolls of “Mylar” (mfg. by DuPont), using a stencil and razor knife, cutting each letter, logo, or design individually peeling off the back and sticking them onto the vehicles. If the paint job is good and not rough, dirty or oxidized, once you put it on, it is there forever. “Mylar” may go by a different name now, or there may be better replacement products but I remember “Mylar” to be a very good product that came in a multitude of colors. Any stick on vinyl sign should not be put on the side of a vehicle, dry. If you get it crooked, you will not be able to correct it. The trick is to mix a bucket of water with dishwashing liquid in it. Sponge the soapy water on the vehicle and position the peeled off sign or design in place. The soapy water will allow you to slide the sign, letters, design, or logo around until you get it level, where you want it. Once you get it where you want it, starting in the center and working your way outward, using a small, plastic 4” body working squeegee, slowly squeegee the water out from behind the sign, making sure the vinyl remains perfectly flat and wrinkle and bubble free. Hold the sign firmly in place to avoid it from moving. If bubbles or wrinkles occur, do not leave them, but deal with them while you can by gently working them to the edge. Once all the water is out from behind the vinyl, it is there to stay. Beware of using a level to position your sign or letters. If you are parked on uneven ground, your sign will be uneven like the ground you are parked on. Probably better to measure in two places from the bottom of the door or from a point you know is level with the lines of the vehicle. Jim Patrick

I put this vinyl decal on the side of my daily driver in 2009 and 70k miles ago. Was claimed to use 7yr vinyl - still looks good after several 1800 mile Interstate trips in all kinds of weather. Hit it with the sprayer at the car wash, not recommended, and the Dealer's auto washer after maintenance. Put it on as Jim described. Best part is if you need to take it off for some reason in the future - no problem.

Go for graphics. I got mine hand done and under the clear coat. No regrets at all. It's a dying art, but this guy was amazing. Nothing beats looking real close and seeing those brush marks.

Look around for sign painters or ask around at custom paint shops. They can probably point you toward someone still doing it.

Just finished restoring my dads roadster, and the magnetic signs work a treat, can place them on the other t's if I like. Took the idea off and old black and white photo off the internet of the same bodied pickup as a service car. Cheers chris

I use vinyl decals from the local sign writer shop. They cut from a graphic. My TT has had them for over 11 years now, still look just as good as when applied.
