For those who are into trivia, as I am, look at the post Kim Dobbins placed in the classifieds, showing the rh inside of the firewall. The three pilot holes for the speedometer are there, even though speedometers were no longer being supplied.

I failed to mention, the original floormat has the speedometer hole in it too.

Is it possible the dealer installed the optional speedometer but the customer didn't want to pay for it, so they took it out?

I understand the speedometers were discontinued in late '15, probably for the '16 model year. Kim's car is a low mileage original unrestored car, and the cutout for the bulb horn is in the floormat too, as well as the speedometer. Another thing a lot of people don't know, is the top boot didn't use the common sense fasteners in 1916, as they did in 1915.

Andy, the marks in my original 16 dash are just locating marks, there was never a speedometer installed in my car. Lots can be learned from original cars, I sure hope my car never gets restored!

Thanks for clearing that up Kim. Original cars can clear up a lot of misconceptions that are passed as fact.

Kim, your notions are clear and this car is another to keep as is.

Running out extra stock of firewalls after the stock of speedometers was exhausted? After all, firewalls were factory produced at a "dime a dozen" and Speedo setups were an ouside purchase from various vendors. This would fit with the then Ford philosophy of "Use it until we've depleted current stock".

OR...

The dash was drilled and set up by the dealer for a Ford Special which was later removed from the car...
