Is there a difference between the grease cup used on the rear axle/driveshaft and the steering bracket? Parts vendors call out two different part numbers #2545 & #3596 respectively. Curious minds want to know

No they are the same. The 21 parts book does not list a grease cup in the steering section. The 2545 parts number in the rear end section does not list a quantity because that grease cup was used in several locations, rear axle tubes, steering bracket and at the upper driveshaft bushing.

I spent an hour with a hammer and chisel knocking off many decades of crusty dirt buildup from my spare torque tube. Under the dirt was a perfect, unrusted grease cup. It was shiny and beautiful. It was also identical to the rusty old cup on my steering bracket. I put the pretty one on the bracket where it would be seen often. I am saving the crusty one for under the floorboards.

I looked for #3596 in parts books and didn't find it anywhere. It may be in there someplace, but as Mark says, they're the same cup. In fact, Lang's catalogue says so even though it shows #3596 separately.

It depends on the year. The earlier cars use the same 1/8 pipe threads as the later cars, but the shape of the female cup (the top one) is different. I'm not sure when the change took place. Perhaps Ford changed suppliers, but I've never seen the cauliflower type on a later car. My '13 roadster came with two serrated type caps, which I've only seen a few of. They are sort of ugly, and must not have been used very long. The big U-joint cap is the same for most all years as far as I know. I've not seen a cauliflower u-joint cap that has the correct stud inside to keep it from coming off.

Larry, confused by the cauliflower description. Is this what you mean? Both large and small grease cups shown. Thanks

Yes, that is what I was talking about. They just look older.

While we're in the subject, are grease cups with a brass cap older than those with a steel cap ? My '13 has an assortment, no "cauliflower" caps (good name !) but that doesn't mean much. She was restored when I got her and I know nothing of the "provenance".
