The end of this week I'll be heading to Parke County Indiana for the Covered Bridge Tour. For those who have gone on this tour before do you have any advice for a first-timer? My wife and I will be camping at the fairgrounds.

Have a wonderful time, please! I have always wanted to participate in that tour and hope to next year.

I was unaware of it Tim. Maybe I can plan on going next year.

For future reference do the tour routes have steep grades up or down for those of us with stock brakes?

The tour has a few hills, stock T does just fine on this tour. A few places that low band climb is required, since a lot of the bridges are low areas. A grade down to a bridge and then up out of the bridge. Stock brakes will be fine also, dust and gravel are our worst enemy. The majority of the bridges are on gravel roads. See you in a few days.

This tour is lots of fun. This is perhaps the most friendly tour we've been on. Getting together in the main building every day is great. And don't forget the swap meet - there are bargains to be had! We've been on it several times, but unfortunately, will not be on it this year.

What Brian said in his post above is good information. That said, a Ruckstell is nice to have on this tour for climbing up out of the low river areas after going through the bridge.

If you have a Ruckstell, take notice if the T in front of you is a heavy sedan without a Ruckstell and maybe has several adults in it. If so, you may want to wait until that car is up the hills and out of your way. I like it that way so I can go up the hills at my own speed and not wait for a slower car. Of course, the same is true if you have a Kansas City Warford with an underdrive gear.

This is a great tour with a lot to see, be ready for some very rough roads they will loosen every bolt and screw on your car and dust, there is a car wash in town across from the DQ.

This is one of the best tours we have ever been on. If I was forced to pick only one tour I was allowed to go on, this would be it.

The area is a delight, the people are friendly, the bridges are very picturesque and getting to them offers a nice relaxing route. The optional Amish dinner is not to be missed. There are always great stops: unique stores, restaurants, sights. Yes, there are some hills but nothing unusual. I've gotten some great shots of my 14 in front of the bridges. I just can't say enough about it.

Judi and I and my youngest son ( he's 33)and his lady friend are going this year.

Thanks....sounds like we picked a good one (newbies luck.) Our T is loaded and we leave for my daughter's Thursday - on to Parke Co. on Friday. We're scheduled for the Friday Amish dinner so that should be interesting. For those of you who are going...see you there. For the rest, I'll report how it went upon my return.

We went on a covered bridge tour in Oregon a few months ago. We saw five of them in one day.

Have a great time, friend! It is a great tour! Make sure to make the social time in the main building. Lots of great people! Sorry we're missing the Tour.

First day was great fun !! Here’s a few pics from my ‘26 roadster. Corn was being harvested. Amish boy gave me permission to take his picture making silage. You know the drill - touch the upside down picture to make it rightside up

Ha !... not stealing field corn. Friend’s exhaust pack nut unscrewed. Had to retrieve correct wrench for him.

Wonderful 100 mile tour today along country roads lined with 8’ corn and fields of soy beans. Tonight we were serenaded by an incredibly talented Blue Grass trio on the courthouse square. See the musicians on the porch thru the T windshield. Photos by Kathy Taggert.

More perfect bucolic roads on which to drive our Model T s this week. Even a driver older than his Model T !! This Missouri ‘tourist’ is 97 and his touring is only 93 !! Historic covered bridges built between 1862 and the 1920 s. Supper with an Amish family includes a 9 course meal then 5 pies afterwards. A wonderful time was had by all
