The repop 1912 firewalls are made out of cherry. Is that the original wood for 1912?

The correct dash has 1/8" cherry veneer over a solid hardwood core, which I believe could have been cherry along a number of other woods.

Regarding reproduction dashes for the brass cars, many seem to be made from plywoods faced with cherry (?) cabinet veneers. Not a problem in the short-haul, but as furniture grade sheet stock is not required to do much more than look good, soft-wood interior plies, often with multiple voids, are not up to taking the stress which the steering column imposes when bolted through the dash. As R.V. points out, thick cherry veneers were laminated over solid hardwood cores. This subject can be researched in forum discussions in past years. One I recall stated the core wood was hard maple; a good choice structurally I think !
