Whuzzit??

Any ideas ? Very well made casting . We put several of our local peanut brains together and think it may be part of a “in the seat” pull start mechanism. The curved part at the top appears to have been sawed off. The sketch with red is my guess, to mount a pulley . Any help would be great!

Your pull starter explanation may very well be correct. I was thinking it could be a mounting for an outside magneto, maybe marketed as an easier fix to a failed magneto than pulling the engine. Pure guess.

It's called a Boston Starter. The cast-in number B S 1 identifies it. Check Jay's post at this link with information on it.
