Where the heck did this film go? It looks like it never even opened in N.J. I've searched the net for local showings (none ) and frankly I don't have anyone else to ask that might have any interest. I suppose, at this point, it'll be a wait until (or if ) it turns up on TV.

I scrolled through 124 online reviews. Many movies, maybe even most, get a wide range of reactions ranging from adoration to loathing. Not so here. Despite one 5 on a scale of 1 to 10, most ratings were 9 or 10, with a few sevens and a couple of sixes. The reviews of this picture are generally so rapturous that I'm afraid I may be a little disappointed when I do see it. But I will see it. It's a more than two hour round trip, but I'll go.

I went. "You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll wish you'd stayed home" according to an old parody of movie advertising. Only two thirds of that applies here. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll be glad you went. It was great! Riley and Coogan are amazing. Makeup makes them resemble the actual guys pretty closely, especially Riley, but both of them absolutely nail the voices and the way the boys moved. Coogan walks like Stan, and when they do the old routines it's like watching the real guys. I don't often go see a movie more than once, but if this one's still playing next weekend I'm going back.

Wife and I saw it yesterday. Highly recommend it if you’re the least bit of a Laurel & Hardy fan.

This Saturday, Feb. 2nd, at the Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, NY, be there for 6:30pm for the live organ music, 7pm showing of "the boys" period movie, followed by the new flicker " Stan and Ollie" at 7:30 pm. Nice evening out for those who are able to attend, bad weather aside.

Why would anyone cry over a couple of guys doing a silly dance on stage? Because it's the end of the line for The Boys, and that's how it affected me. I rarely go to the same movie twice, but this one was well worth another viewing. Seeing the picture again I was able to notice and appreciate the remarkable moving Steadicam shot near the beginning of the film. I didn't time it, but it's a long sequence with The Boys walking on the studio lot, interacting with people along the way, entering and crossing one sound stage, entering another, and beginning their scene with Hal Roach, all in one shot. The complex choreography of the thing is wonderful to watch. But the strong core of the movie remains the wonderful performances of Coogan and Reilly, aided and abetted by Nina Arianda and Shirley Henderson as their wives. I can easily imagine two best actor nominations coming from the same film.
