Hand Cranked Coil Tester w/Weston Ammeter

I am having trouble restoring my hand cranked coil tester. I know that it used to work some 35 years ago in my father's garage, but it has been moved and I no longer know how to have it wired to check my coils and/or spark plugs. I presently am not getting a spark. Does it need grounded before I see or hear one? The voltage meter is a Weston Ammeter. Thanks for any help. I have no one locally who can assist anymore.

Silly question but are you trying it with a coil in place? Also you may need to clean the needle indicator and the ring with scotchbrite.

The coil is in place. There are two posts on the bottom of the coil and one on its side. Where specifically should the wires from each of these terminals lead on my tester?

laying down or standing up the diagram on page 12 is very clear and simple. Unless you are doing in car testing of the magneto the choke is not needed so can be left out of the circuit. Unless the coil you are testing was used for other uses, would not have post on it. If it does, just use jumpers and hook up as shown. If this is a non Ford coil the wiring would/could be different as to what terminals on it go to where.

My coil tester looks like this image but of course is a little dirtier. I did learn from page 12 that the gap on the bolts holing the spacers away from the magneto flywheel assembly and the outer ring had have a gap of at least 1/2". I will see if I can figure out the wiring although the drawing would be different on my manufactured unit since the coil housing since the coil housing sets underneath the flywheel housing assembly.
