Engine Specs??

This is kind of embarassing... but I really don't know the answer, and can't find it.

I received a '17 short block that was babbitted, but missing literally everything else. I was going to start sourcing parts, and all of the sudden, it hit me...

WHAT were the "standard" specs for a T engine? I have no idea if this block is stock or 40 over, the crank saddles are set for shatever standard is or 20 under... So I went a'lookin', and realize I could not find ANYWHERE in reach what the "standard" specs were on a T enngine. Pretty embarassing, eh?

So... could someone point me to the "baseline" specs for a T engine, transmission, etc? I know the answer is out there somewhere, but... um... yeah. Can someone point me in the direction to find things such as what's the crank journals, bore & stroke, Cam journal sizes... the whole maryann that I could pull up on a modern motor from someplace like Alldata, but somehow is eluding me when looking for T stuff.

Much thanks...

Just be careful on Mac's piston specs, they are for a cast iron piston although a foot note states that the split skirt faces away from the cam, that is a aluminium piston, to set the ring gap on a aluminium piston at what's listed you will have an engine that will lock up.

Here's Lang's version. See page 299.

I am NOT a machinist by any measure, but I have a question. The specs listed in both Mac's and Lang's indicate a cylinder bore as 6.752" long but neither include the stroke in the data. Why? Isn't that a useful bit of information?

Henry,
Not sure why they wouldn’t show the stroke spec.... but it’s 4” ;)

The booklet "Engine" published by the club has this information. It is very useful in maintaining or rebuilding the T engine.
Bore diameter=3.750 length 6.752.
Crankshaft main bearings length front 2" center 2 3/16" rear 3 1/8 " rods 1.505" diameter of all bearings 1.248". Stroke 4"

I recommend the book.

Henry

that would be a spec related to crankshaft.
