Chris Egsgaard’s 1973 Long Beach champ is coming back together.

Thank you for the update. I looked but I didn't find a photo of the 1973 winning car -- if you or anyone else has a photo or a link they could post to that blue T, that would be appreciated.

Chris E and that car certainly are real parts of model T "post modern" history! I am pleased to see it going together as what it was. I do think I met Chris at a Long Beach Swap Meet about 45 years ago, although I never really knew him. I did know several people involved in the Hill Climb, and they all admired Chris.

That’s Egsgaard’s Wild Cherry. It turned the whole hill climb thing upside down and was the beginning of what the Long Beach event was famous for. It is the car we modeled the Wild Cherry II racer after.

That was a picture he did and wrote on the back of for my Mom when she was a little girl, I now have it.

This is such fun stuff going back thru time with these old racers. I discovered that my car, previously owned by George Romain in So Cal did the hill climb in 1969 and I just randomly came across this pic of him and my car #60 driving up the hill.

It's too bad there arent any competitions like this anymore. I know legal/risk wise it's a nightmare but that is what made the TROG so popular. There is a real desire amongst the younger population to have fun doing events like the hill climb.

There are competitors like this! We run them all the time at our FAST hill climbs! Maybe not so extreme; but, just as much fun.

Got it running last night. Sounds very potent. Won’t idle, need to work on the Winfield D model carb. We hope to race it on Saturday at RPM nationals in Santa Margarita.

I knew Chris pretty well, and saw him shortly before he passed away. He was a fun guy, and controversial too. I never cared for the fast stuff like Chris did though. Stock has always been good enough for me. If anyone has access to Saga Magazine for March 1962, Vol. 23, No. 6, page 32, there is a photo of me getting ready to flag a T up the hill. I was 17 at the time and am 76 now.

As I said, I did not know Chris E myself. I do recall that he was often controversial. If I recall correctly, for quite a number of years, he rebuilt, or built new, a T-based car nearly every year. People waited, and often went to see the Hill Climb, just to see what he came up with for that year.
He may have been controversial, and his "thing"may not have been my "thing", but he was an important piece of our model T's history. History for the T did not end with the production stoppage in 1927. I am pleased by Erik and crew's Wild Cherry II and this resurrection of one of Chris E's cars.

Hap, if you look at the first link in your post (General Hillclimb Info) and scroll way down toward the bottom where I posted more info, there are two pictures (1971) of the car when it was orange and had the huge megaphone exhaust. Just below that is a picture of it in orange with the megaphone, and then in blue with a new hood and header exhaust. The blue car with header is the 1973 winning combination.The megaphone looked cool and made lots of noise, but the header made more power.
