I am looking for photos of cars with the aftermarket Firestone 5 lug demountable wheels as well as info about them. I was told they were available as early as 1909? Any photos or info is appreciated

Good Day!
I have 3 of the Firestone rims!
Interesting, but UGLY!
Spokes are extra heavy duty!
Looks like a wheel for a TT not a refined T!
Just Saying!!!!!

Here is a photo of famed early race car driver Joan Cuneo showing off the Firestone Demountables. She used them in 1909 of the Glidden, mounted on a Rainier.

My bad - those were the "new" FISK demountables, not Firestones.
Nice photo anyway.

Those Firestone "Demountable Rims" were indeed first shown at the New York Auto Show, Jan. 1909, same big event that featured the new Ford too!

Here is the write up from the section of The Horseless Age, Jan 1909 of the tire cos. products on display, note the mention of Firestone demountable rims.......and of course, the famous 'Non -Skid' tire with the letters in the tire for traction.

Later issue of Motor Age, in June, 1909 with full page adv, showing various rim style for the different tires of the day.

Thanks for the photos and info so far. So I have a set that are Stanweld. Same very heavy felloes. I have seen very few photos of Model Ts with them, especially period photos. I really like the way they look, very stout like wheels on a larger car. Let’s see some more photos! Someone has to have some!

Also I think they really serve their purpose. Meaning if you want to go really fast with your early T say with OHVs etc..I think they are much safer and just seem like they would be a period accessory for that purpose. Here’s a photo of Ed Archer with his yellow speedster that has a set of these 5 lug aftermarket wheels:

I have a set of 5 lug accessory wood fellow wheels that will go on my '14 Touring soon. The question is that my wheels and rims don't have any name on them. The lugs have a captured lug nut with no name on the lug but they say "30 3.5" on the lug. The wheels are kind of unusual in that they have wood fellows, but also have the metal from the outer edge of the fellow coming down the outer side of the wood fellow. They're a really strong looking wheel.

I'll take a couple of pictures & try to post them tomorrow.

Interesting that there are so many different manufacturers of this type of wheel. It’s also interesting that some have way thicker felloes than others. I’ve also seen the type with the steel ring on the outside. The Stanweld Type seems to have the thickest felloe. I also have a pair of NOS wheels made by Jaxon and the felloe is not as heavy as my Stanweld wheels. Any more photos?!

The Firestone demountables were a very usefull accesory (almost a must-have item) on the ambulances in use in World War One. In the beginning in 1914 Ford did not deliver their chassis with demountable rims, so the American Field Ambulance Service, a volunteer organisation, purchased Firestone wheels for their Ford cars, as is shown in the picture of the '15 ambulance in the photo.

Sorry about the poor quality of the picture but it was all i could find at short notice
