Chickasha's Last Hurrah

Post by RustyFords » Mon Oct 21, 2019 3:32 pm

I plan on getting a couple spots at Chickasha 2020. I'd really like for it to go out with a bang instead of a whimper.

Anyone else planning on attending?

Susie told me last year that as soon as they announced the end of the meet, registrations new and old picked up to the point where they were running 3 times the rate of 2018's. So it looks like it will be quite the celebration and farewell.

I'm undecided, but hearing that registrations are way up makes it more appealing. :)

I attended the Chickasha swap meet once, about about 20 years ago.

I'm still burping from the meal I had at Jake's Rib.

What’s the latest if any attempts to have a similar meet in the same area or somewhere in Texas or Oklahoma. Pate was pretty good years ago.

Pate was pretty good years ago.

A little rain turned the high ground slicker than snot, and the low ground into a quagmire that had people stuck in the mud for days. Then the sun would come out and it seemed that in half an hour there was dust blowing in the wind. It was glorious—my favorite meet. The move to TMS ruined it.

I am planning to go and actually take a trailer full of goodies to sell. At least that's the plan. I think we still have the outside spaces between the two buildings and I have a new Wells Cargo 6 x 12 to fill up with stuff. I'll have one big drum Ruckstell, maybe two, some other goodies if we can get it all figured out and loaded.

Hearing that this will be the last gathering and having never attended, I'll be making the 1.123 mile trek to catch that experience. Great to see that so many will be making it a memorable event.

I hope that Another pre ww2 swap meet will come about in this area, with the high registration rate it seems there a lot of vendors that will have no where to go, Hershey is amazing I hear but a little to far for me to attend every year... I guess model t haven will get more of my business

Thanks for the video Steve! I was thinking either Jack Benny or Bob Hope.
As far as Pate moving to TMS it’s pretty much classic era cars and everything else in between now. Not much prewar cars or parts other than Hot Rods when I went. You can walk a mile and maybe you’ll see a spark coil.
What’s good or soon ‘use to be good’ about Chickasha was haveing T parts and other pre-war stuff in one place where you didn’t have to walk really far to find it and the availability of T parts.
It seems the interest is still there for the prewar parts and cars.
Depending on the location we will drive farther to find it.

Last March at Chickasha there was talk of somebody within 200 miles wanting to start a new prewar meet. If he decides to do it, I expect we'll hear of it well in advance.

If that’s so the attendance being up and more vendors being there than before indicates the interest is there. Time will tell.

I’ve stopped and looked at your plates the last few years. I don’t have a car that old, but I sure do admire the craftsmanship and will miss seeing it.

I will be at FL 7 and 8, same as last year/ Will bring brass items and other goodies. Will see what I can dig out. Have some nice early literature, manuals and sales stuff. Some early operators manuals. Do not have a list as yet. Ir will be nice to visit old friends. The early Ford group will have their meeting I assume. I have items tucked away that I do not remember where. I will need to look and see what I find.

Allan, we have stayed there the last several years and will this year. It satisfies the basics and is quite a bit less expensive than the nicer hotels. It's not so nice that I haven't thought about staying other places, but not so bad that I'd pay twice the rate. The rooms (at least the one we got last year) have been updated within the last 1-2 years, and the people running it seem nice. I can't speak to the breakfast, as we swing through somewhere on the way to the meet in the mornings.

I will be back at NJ5 hopefully with some bits including stuff left over from the 09 which I sincerely hope will be running by March. I’m staying at the Budget motel which clean and convenient, well at least thats the way it’s been for the last couple of years.
Are there any rumors about a similar swap meet to the replace Chickasha Prewar meet?

Does the later antique auto swap meet attract many T and A cars and parts? Never been to that one. It seems it’s on or close to the prewar meet location.
It’s for all old cars newer or older or so it seems.

I have never been to Chickasha. I did add it to my Bucket List when I began to create one a few years ago. I guess that I will now have to put together some sort of plan.
There really are few items I truly need and seek, but it would be enjoyable to stroll the grounds and look. Meeting many of you would be an honor and a pleasure.
Truth be told, I need to do some Serious downsizing as a move is in my future. There is No Way that I can move all of this stuff and there is much which I will never use.

Does the later antique auto swap meet attract many T and A cars and parts?

I assume you're referring to the other Chickasha meets. I haven't been to either of them since I sold the sign business in 2004, but I used to go to the fall meet every year. I went to the spring meet only once. That was the first one, and didn't amount to much of anything. The fall meet was a big one, but leaned heavily postwar. I don't know how it is now.

Good stuff is becoming scarce and becoming costly. The rare good Model T and Model A Ford items, but not as much as,say, 10 or 15 years ago. There is odd stuff for many other makes. I first attended this meet about 7 years ago and sold for the first time last year. Friday was the only good day. I pulled out on Saturday at about noon and was about the about only one left from Friday in my area. A vendor with more auto related signs set up on Saturday with nice stuff, but there were no buiyers left around him. 2020 is the last one and I have heard that it well be well attended by vendors and buyers. There were few early cars for sale last year. I did allright last year and will bring a variety of parts and items in 2020. Come early. It will be fun just to see what is around and visit new and old friends. Bring a bundle of cash too. I do not need much, but I always find something to buy.

All this talk about “Why doesn’t someone start a meet to replace Chickasha “. Well you guys just need to step up and do what Dennis F did and start one.
Or maybe come to Luray and support that one.
