1926/27 Front Spring Dimensions
hi all,
I recently bought a set of front T springs from a swap meet, and I assumed they are 1926/27 because they had 8 leafs. There isn't much in the encyclopedia for measurements, can someone tell me what they measure for spring width and length?
Also, these are not drilled for oilers, so I'm not sure exactly what I have at this point. here's some pics:
just want to make sure these are actually T, I'm told they are not.
thanks!

Re: 1926/27 Front Spring Dimensions
8 leaf (late: 1926-27)
Length of Spring Leaf // and Overall Height of Ea. Leaf from flat surface
8-13/16" / 9/16"
11-9/16" / 13/16"
14-13/16" / 1-1/8"
18-5/8" / 1-7/16"
22-5/8" / 1-7/8"
27-1/8" / 2-1/4"
31-5/8" / 2-11/16"
33" / 3-5/16"
Your spring appears to be an aftermarket version, the sharp angle clipped edges are un-like Ford mfg.

For ref. to the Ford style ends of the leafs, this work by John Regan from the prints of Ford springs. Good way to i.d. Ford parts vs. aftermarket.

Re: 1926/27 Front Spring Dimensions
I believe Model T spring leaves are 1 1/4" wide, at least they are on my model Ts (a '25 Coupe and a '27 Tudor). Model A springs (I own a '29 Tudor) are 1 1/2" wide.
Shouldn't the height of the main leaf be measured from the centers of the spring eyes?

Yes, Model T front springs are 1 /14" wide , rear springs are 2" wide.
Perhaps if making spring leafs, measures are from center of eye, without Ford prints, hard to know.
These measures are easy to use at swap meets, the eyes resting on flat surface, and tape measure up to the center bolt hole
For distance between eyes, (perch mount) measure for the Front springs.
31-5/16" to 31-1/2" 7 or 8 leaf
7-Leaf Front spring, center of eye to center of eye.

I cannot tell from your pictures, but an easy way to see that a spring is for a Model T is to look for the oil hole at the spring eye. Model A's, for example, have the oiler built into the shackle so they did not have to have the spring eye drilled for the oiler.

Re: 1926/27 Front Spring Dimensions
What an excellent discussion.
I was trying to sort out front spring confusion and Dan Treace provided a link to this valuable discussion.
Although not what I wanted to hear, it was just what I needed to hear and explains why my front springs are 1 3/4" wide instead of the normal 1 1/2". You also explained why there are oiler holes in the rear spring eyes but none are in the front. Clearly someone has fitted a Model A spring set at some point in this vehicles challenged past. Not sure what they did to the frame to make this wider spring assembly fit so will have to check this out closely and see if things are recoverable.
Thank you all for sharing your wisdom,
Joe
