Hello fellow Model T-ers,

I have two questions for you today.

1). Is this an original Model T tailgate?

2). What would be a fair price to pay for this particular tailgate?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

-Steven

Appears to be & pretty nice condition for other than the bullet hole and the 2 other small holes - perhaps reflectors.

Value is whatever you can get for it but IMO $100 - $150.

Thank you Steve,
Does anyone else have an opinion on these 2 questions?

Depending upon the size it could also be model A gate but that would be a good question for the A guys also. The straps/hinges for those would be different. Just a thought.

Could be a tailgate in the early 30’s era.

Model A tailgate is the same as the T.

Steve has value about right IMO.

That is a T tailgate. The A tailgate will fit a T bed, but the A tailgate has folded over double at the bottom hinge strap, because the single T strap is weak at that lower spot.

The tailgate is definitely a T tailgate. This style was also used on the first 1928 A pickups too. They found the hinge was weak, and they are, so they modified that hinge for the A's, but they will still fit a T. You mentioned in a phone call that there is a slight convex problem with that tailgate which could probably be corrected on a press if only slight, but if not, would require heat, shrinking the metal back to it's original form. I own an authentic 1925 pickup, and spend countless hours painting and sanding my tailgate. It still isn't 100%, but it's as good as I could get it.
