A friend is working on a 23 touring car. The brackets that you bolt the top saddle support arms into are missing. I have a set from a 21 touring. Can anyone tell me if these brackets are the same in 1921 and 1923?

Looking in Bruce's book, wouldn't a 1923 have had the holes in the rear of the body for the straight top saddle support arms to poke through?

Does your 23 have the brackets going over the body or through it. The earlier Touring 22 and back, had the brackets going over the body while the later Touring had the bracket (or arm) going through the body. The earlier Tourings had a 5 piece back section. The later Tourings had a 3 piece back which had the arms going THROUGH the body. Hope this helps.

Don't forget, the L arms and the straight through top saddle rods use different top saddles.

Thank you so much for helping your friend with his T. With over 15,000,000 made and many of them modified to keep them in service over the years we all have questions about some part etc.

Photos below should help you see what folks above have been talking about with the earlier style verses later style touring bodies and how the top rest was changed from the old style to the new style. From the factory, both styles were offered with a lot of overlap. And depending on the source you will see the year listed a little differently for when the change occurred. But which ever style body your friend has, that is the style top rest that would have come with that body.

Caution -- if the body was rebuilt, you can mix and match different parts from an earlier body and a later body and come up with one that Ford never originally supplied, but that still functions "OK."

And of course are you sure it is a 1923 T? Engines, bodies, etc.may have been swapped out over the years.
