I recently discovered a Paterson speedo drive unit, with the brass two piece spiral drive gear, but it needs a new fibre pinion gear for the drive shaft. Are they available anywhere?

There are a number of different ratios. I think I have the list. Depends on rear axle ratio and tire size

I had a batch made about 15 years ago. About 25 if I remember, and thought I’d probably die with them. I think I sold the last one about a year ago. Yes, there are different sizes, but can’t imagine someone’s that anal to worry about 1 or 2 mph.

So which version did you make? What material?

Les, I had a NOS fiber gear copied originally. I found the list of ratios years later, and we had lucked out and made the gear for the late 21” balloon tires. I don’t remember the specs, but should be easy to find. Even tire diameters vary so much from tire to tire, and used or new. We used some vintage hard red fiber rod, and I think I have several feet of it left. I’d be glad to share if someone makes another batch. I’d guess nylon would work just as well, but that red fiber wears like iron. Let me know if I can help,

Russ's book shows four Patterson drive fiber gears, 10,11,12,& 13 tooth.
But no ref. on what ratio for tire sizes or gearing other than these were made for T and TT.

Here is what I had. As I said, I didn’t have the chart until long after the fiber gears were made. Got lucky, but really, how much can it matter?
