System update successful

Post by AdminJeff » Mon Dec 02, 2019 6:26 pm

The dreaded system update I've been putting off has now been completed. Let me know if you see anything strange happening. Hopefully this will strengthen the weedout process of the spammers.

Perry Kete said "Well the neighbors have been dancing around in their yard during the snow storm naked!"

You mean the snow storm was naked?

About an hour ago the website said it was down for maintenance. Was that strange?

All kidding aside. Thank you so very much. You "admin" Jeff and Chris B for all you do for us crazies!

That’s a whole different issue but I’m investigating it. It has to do with the way the camera/phone is held when taking the pic. There are some solutions but it’s not an easy fix.

That was us doing updates. It should have told you to stop whining, relax and go get another cup of coffee. Well... at least the last part!

Hey there Jeff!
It did say those things. The problem is that I don't drink coffee!
I gotta whine about something.

Jeff, For what it’s worth, I never noticed an issue on my photos or anyone elses in the first few months of the new forum up till the time those hackers were around. Is it possible something changed around that time?

The only time I have the sideways photo problem is when I post a picture in a vertical format. So before posting one of those I rotate it 90º (left or right doesn't matter) then rotate is back upright. That always prevents the sideways problem for me.

Without rotation.

After rotation.
The inevitable often happens.

I have an old Ipad 2 I often use to access the forum. It's always been slow as molasses, sometimes a minute to reload a page. It's much faster tonight!

It's how you hold the camera. If it's held sideways ,The info is encoded in the pic when you take it but not recognized when the thumbnail is created as you upload the pic to the forum. But when you click the t"thumbnail" pic and get the full size version, it's correct. Again, it's complicated, but I'm working on it.

Thanks Jeff. The sideways/upside down pictures aren't hard to deal with, but they are a nuisance. Hope you get it figured out. JMHO Dave

Steve, I understand what is happening. It’s a nuisance. It didn’t happen in the first few months of the forum. It’s good to know Jeff knows why it’s happening and is trying to work on it. Knowing how to get around it by jumping thru some hoops when you post a photo is just like running on battery when your magneto dies. It’s okay for the short term, but not a fix.
