Re: Another early touring
Very early indeed. Three tier lamps, smooth (removeable shell?) radiator...
Is it a two-lever, with the levers side by side?
Nice picture!!!

Re: Another early touring
Sure looks like a two lever to me! Linoleum covered wooden running boards, square front front fenders. It may even have a water pump? I sure would like to spend a few hours looking at it in person. And finally! A good angle to actually see the rear hub sticking way out! A fantastic picture. Thank you Tom R!

Re: Another early touring
I love seeing the earliest of the early Ts. They always raise some questions I've never found authoritative answers for. In this case, what keeps the crank in that vertical position ? And, what's the "deal" with the headlamp glass, which appears to be several vertical pieces ? I've noted that in many period photos of acetylene lamps, but never on a restoration.

Re: Another early touring
Wouldnt doubt its an '09. Sure is gorgeous. And I'm glad Henry made the top so it laid down flatter..man there's NO visibility behind.
And yep..looks like Curly driving and Spanky fingerprinting the carbide generator.

Re: Another early touring
Great photo! Looks like a dark green color on a two lever Ford. In My Cally's book it says " offered in various colors until June of 09". Is there any info on what colors were offered?

Re: Another early touring
I should have said other than red, green, gray.
I know that some early cars you could order any color you wanted. Just wondering if there are any original 09 cars that are painted other than those three colors.

Re: Another early touring
I think it's a two lever too. No one seems very happy in that photo. Maybe he is dreading all the payments he's going to have to make!

(Maybe Moe or Larry will know).

Re: Another early touring
Rich I think there is a devise mounted on the engine mount that holds the crank upright. Probably aftermarket accessory. I have seen that before. The strips of glass in the headlights was fairly common in early headlights, especially in rushmores

Thanks Dale. I can't help wondering how the glass was fitted, and the reason for it ?

Re: Another early touring
There was an accessory device called an "Oakes Crank Lok" - I have one on our '14 Touring - it also has accommodations to secure with a long shank padlock. Antitheft device besides keeping your hand crank out of the mud !

Re: Another early touring
Rich, I have asked myself that question and never got an intelligent answer. ?;O)
It seems they did that early. I suspect lamp lenses broke while driving on rough roads from vibration and/or heat. The separate pieces would allow both expansion and movement that might have relieved stresses. In later years they may have found clearances and gaskets reduced the problem and one piece lenses could work.

When did I do that?

Re: Another early touring
Does that top have a roll-down windscreen? Maybe there is something laying on the folded top that looks like a windscreen.

Re: Another early touring
I clicked on the forum picture and saw the original photo. From a careful look, it appears the brake level is brass, I suppose brass plated.
Kim Dobbins and the Encyclopedia indicate this is correct but it’s the first picture of an original car I have seen with a brass (plated) brake lever

Re: Another early touring
I agree Charlie - I understand the "early" cars had a mechanism to hold it up - I was just showing another option.
