Looking for a good time near Orlando on Wednesday...

No, not that kind of good time!

The Lady Michelle and I are in central Florida for a few days — she's off to Disney World on Wednesday and I'll be at loose ends.

I'm thinking of driving up to Ocala for the Don Garlits museum, but am looking for additional/alternate suggestions... other collections, tire-kicking with kindred souls, off-beat auto destinations (ideally some combination of the three!)

Please PM to get in touch or text my cell 780-four-four-five-0156. Thanks in advance.

Howdy, Chris. For car minded people I couldn't recommend anything better than the Museum of Drag Racing. Big Daddy has two museums, one dedicated to drag racing and the other is classic cars, hot rods and many other neat things to see. Picture a giant siren powered by a Chrysler industrial hemi-engine.

When I go I usually try to get there about opening time for the drag racing museum (9 AM I think). Then head a short distance over Sonny's BBQ for lunch. Then visit the car museum until they close and kick me out.

Good thing to do while your bride's at rat country (Mickey doesn't get my respect). A woman at the Museum of Drag Racing will use it up in about 45 minutes and a short time later will become unhappy. And, as everybody knows, when Mama ain't happy ain't nobody happy. ;)

Kennedy Space Center isn’t too far away. Between there and the Space Museum which you used to get in free with your ticket from Kennedy S. C. I spent a day and a half there.

Well, it looks like Garlits on Wednesday and lunch at Sonny's. Sounds like a fun day ahead. Thanks to all for your input.

Disney World had a great steam train tour. Took several hours in the morning and the guide told you the history, maintenance and operation of the steam trains. You have to ask as it is not widely known.

Too bad you will not be around on Saturday as there is an " all ford " show at the Ford-Edison museum in Ft. Meyers,

We visited the Garlits Museum about 5 years ago on a T tour. I really liked the separate building with the Model T's and various classics. When we were there Don Garlits himself was there and I had my picture taken with him. He was very friendly, but is almost deaf from all his dragster noise over the years.

Chris : There is a fairly good flea market just North of Webster Florida starting next Friday (Google ; Sumter Extravaganza). Not Hershey or Charlotte, but I usually find some goodies there every year. A better on starts Feb 14th at Zephyrhills if you're here that long. Cheers : Bruce
