I envy you guys that have spacious garages in the country that have room for five cars, mountains of specialty tools and .. even heat. Thought you might enjoy what an urban model T owner has. My house and garage was built in 1919 and there are two bays in the unheated garage. One side has a table saw, bandsaw, sander, drill press, metal shear and shelving. It’s also were the lawn mower and snow blower are stored.

The T sits in the other side with a vintage workbench at the far end. I have a small kerosene heater that allows me to thaw my fingers when needed. Kinda like an ice fishing shack up on the lake.

"Charming I'm Sure." That would be delightful and easier to heat than some.

I(we) started out with less and as years progress started planning what I(we, the bride) wanted in life as far as accommodations. It has been nothing but compromises, sacrifices, and doing without or making do what we have.

Sometimes we have to reflect and count our blessings, and sometimes ask ourself, "Man that tax assessor loves me"!

Lots of room when I pull the T into the driveway.

Reminds me of my 1st garage. One car, wood siding and no heat. Man what a step up from living with my parents. Never had a garage there. If it broke, you lay in the snow or rain to fix it. That little garage was great but I like my ship now. Only took 32 years. You have made great use of the space and she looks at home there. Thanks for sharing it with us and the festive looking T.

Mark, thats a big garage for 1919.

If you are going to heat your garage with a car in it you should elevate the flame to a min of 18" above the ground to keep it above possible gasoline vapor.

Yes, that’s a great point Humble. Actually I put the heater on the ground for the video. It’s usually up on the steel top of my table saw.

I understand. My Model T career started in 1962 with a 1924 Fordor in an unheated garage in northeast Ohio. There was a small electric heater that kept the tools warm enough to not freeze to my fingers. The best part of the video shown here is that car and garage LOOK right, no anachronisms, everything goes together. It is hard to get that appearance in a modern, big, steel building: more space, yes, but no ambiance.

Most of the houses in my area had what I call a Model T garage. Room for one Model T, and that is all.

Looks good and some great tools such as the coil tester and the old radio. I have heard that it gets very cold in Rochester. I have only been there in the summer. I like your old house as well. Reminds me of some of the places I lived when a boy. This house I live in now was brand new when we moved here but is now one of the oldest houses where I lived 46 years old now. I am glad I don't need to heat my garage here but sometimes it does get below freezing but almost always warms up during the day. You have a good looking car. Just be careful of the heater. I have known people who lost their garage and Model T from gas water heater in the same garage.

Some guys I know were more productive in charming, cramped quarters than in later more spacious buildings. I built several cars in my folks old garage before I built the one I have now. I kind of miss the old place.

If you have a small shop,you can't let things lay around and collect dust or you will trip all over them.So you are more apt to fix them quicker. My shop,30x40 ,I thought I would never run out of room.! Boy was I ever wrong.
I roll something in there and push it around till the tires are slick before I get around to fixing it because there is always room for 1 more project!

When I took the runabout apart in 2016 it was this time of year. I put all the fenders, turtle back and other sheet metal on my front porch. I hoisted the body as high as I could in the garage so that I could work on the chassis elements piece by piece. By the next July it was inspected and on the road. I hit my head on that body nearly every time I went into the garage. Here are a couple of pictures from that time.

With four Model T's in a two car garage I was in desperate need of more space. While thumbing through Model T service bulletins I came across an article showing the interior dimensions for the smallest recommended garage for housing a Model T which are 10'X16'. In less than a week I had it built and occupied. Those dimensions allowed for a couple of feet of walk around space and an opening of 7' 6" allowed me to drive the car in with the top up. The best part was that it looked like a garden shed, did not require any permits because it was not considered a permanent structure and when I moved the first time I took it with me.

Nice video, like a Richard Eagle painting coming to life. If you did the work yourself and you work for free, it would not cost a lot to finish the ceiling, insulate and sheath the interior. That would hide the 'patina', unfortunately. All the best for the holidays, jb
