exhaust cutout

Post by tdump » Mon Dec 30, 2019 8:39 pm

I picked up a exhaust pipe a few years ago that has the inside of the muffler made on to it and it has a cutout just like this 1 on it.
The remanents of the body of the 26 T I am building into a speedster has the "pedal" for a cut out on it and I had planned to install the cutout on the speedster if for nothing else a conversation peice. But my question is,what was it's intended purpose? Just to make it loud to draw attention? Play a mind game with your self thinking it made more power up a hill?

The advertisement for my Apco explosion proof muffler with a built in cutout on my TT claimed a gain of two HP. Thats 10%. Im looking for more aftermarket doodads. Shoot it could reach 100 HP if I find enough on them! :D

Back in the day, they were called motor testing valves. I think, not sure, but I think to skirt the laws. I agree with your thinking, Dallas. Besides that, the one who dies with the most do-dads wins!

You may just be the winner my friend! The cool factor of showing the V8 guys my speed equipment is where its at. Always gets a smile when the quiet 20HP engine lets out a roar.

Mack, I’ve always heard an exhaust cutout does away with back pressure created by a muffler thereby ridding the engine of exhaust gasses at higher RPMs quicker. It probably has as much HP increase as making a topless roadster’s upper windshield horizontal adds to MPH.
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people.
