I am finally putting my 16 Valve Roof engine together and want to have a few words of advice from others. It is a model B roof and I am using a new scat crank. It has been suggested to me that for driving a stipe 250 cam and stock flattop pistons are the best way to go. What do others think who have had experience with these heads? I want power but I don’t want big problems either. The 250 cam and stock pistons have been suggested to me by a trusted expert.

So I need to know the following:

1: what do I do for a head gasket?
2: what do I do for valve springs?
3: is a stipe 250 going the best choice for a cam or should I go with a higher lift? Like a 280 or 290?

The std. grind cam is plenty, that head perform really well as stock, if you can find a big bore carb to help make it breath would be great.

Joe, thanks very much for the reply. Yes I am using a nice Miller master carb and has the same size large throat as the original Roof intake.

It will run a heck of a lot better if you increase the compression ratio. Take the time to CC the head - I think you will find the CR to be under 5:1 with stock pistons.
