Yes, that is a scam. The check will bounce, even when you call the "bank" to make sure the money is in there. The "bank" information you will get on the check is also fake even though the "bank" name is not. He will then get the $5500 dollars that you will wire to fake car mover. The name of the car mover may be rear but the information to wire the money will be fake. This is a classic scam used not only for cars, but for items that need to be shipped not by USPS, FEDX and so on.

Yep, that's a classic scam.

A buddy of mine was selling a antique tractor. He received a check from "someone" in England doing the same thing (asking price+shipping to be given to the shipper). The check was from a major English bank. He had his local bank verify the check and they said it was good.....then they called him back a day or so later and notified him the check was no good.

Your local bank has to actually call the Bank the check is from and verify it is valid (not just check the internet to see if the Bank exists). In this case they said a book of checks was stolen and the scammer was using them (even though they had been id'd as stolen).

That check is now proudly framed on his shop wall.

I also received an e-mail from "Frank Taylor".
I immediately recognized it as a scam.
Been getting email & phone call scams for years.

And this scam carries over to eBay. I had a military trailer listed with a "make offer" and someone on eBay offered me $50 less than full price, so I accepted the offer. And, here it comes, a overnight check for more than the purchase price and I was to deposit the check and then use one of several phone aps to send money to the "shipper". It wasn't a lot of money, and he used someones CC to pay for the UPS overnight shipping of the "check". So, I go back to eBay and ask them how a zero feedback buyer who just joined the same day as he purchased several items with the "make offer" feature, and they just stuck their head in the sand and told me to wait the 48 hours and then report the "buyer" with an unpaid item.

Lesson learned. No money lost, but a PITA.
Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?

A bunch of old cars
Sometimes they run.
Sometimes, they don't.
