For Sale a newly restored 1909 Model T - SOLD

Post by TonyB » Sat Aug 01, 2020 6:44 pm

My newly restored 1909 Model T is up for sale. It does appear that I need to downsize a little, so I have reluctantly decided to find a new and loving home for my 09.
It has less than six miles on the engine, following a comprehensive rebuild which included all new babbitt, new piston, valves and a new SCAT crankshaft. The block is believed to be original and even has an obscure boss on the left side which was apparently intend to provide crankcase ventilation. The coil box is a correct Kingston and includes four rebuilt coils. The commutator is a reproduction “two piece” timer. The sway back inlet manifold includes the correct Kingston five ball carburetor.
The transmission has new bands but included all the original cast and machined parts that were used in these early builds. Of course it has the square hogs head mounting the three pedals. The transmission shaft is dated with the date is was assembled “9 30 09” in this case.

The body is an original Baudette with matching rear doors. The body number is duplicated under each of the rear doors. The wood body is hand painted painted Brewster Green with black painted trim. The upholstery is leather and is in excellent condition. The top and bows are also in great condition. All the metalwork such as fenders, hood and splash aprons are powder coated which will provide for a long, attractive life.

The head lamps are original Jns Brown Model 15’s and are connected to the gas generator with correct tubing. The side lamps and the tail lamps are beautifully restored Jns Brown Model 60’s. I agree the tail lamp should be marked Model 75 but I gather for a few months they were marked Model 60, same as the front. Mine has the correct “error”. The car come with custom covers for each lamp and the radiator.

The wheels were rebuilt by Stuzman and include custom hubs that externally look identical to those shown in the Encyclopedia but internally use the tapered axles. Similarly the rear axle looks correct for the year but internally has Hyatt bearings at each end of the axle shaft. The wheels are currently equipped with white tires and the car has a spare set of new tires included. The steering column is 50” long and is equipped with a brand new brass quadrant.

The horn is the correct double loop Rubes and is equipped with a RANDs windscreen. The working speedometer is the correct Model 24

A video of some of the interesting items and the cars first run is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/06b_vez7Vtc

The car is currently located in San Diego but can be delivered anywhere in the US in my enclosed trailer or anywhere in the world with appropriate arrangements.

Asking $49,995 or best offer.

Contact me at 619-922-3954 ot email at tonybowker@aol.com
I have the build sheet from The Henry Ford for the car which lists the engine being stamped on 4 October 1909 and shipped to a Michigan customer on the eighth.
I am limited to five photos on my posting so expect more in subsequent posts, let me know if any particular ones should be added.

Mr. Bowker, This is a special car. It should be in a museum. I have watched your restoration progress through this site and have learned so much about the early Model T's from your work. I think most of us are students of the Model T and its history and each of these unique restorations add to our knowledge about these important cars. Thank you for your hard work, and for giving us a glimpse of what the first Model Ts are about. All the best on your sale.

Couple of nibbles but no bites.
If anyone is interested, make me an offer, it’s already priced less than it cost me for parts and labor.

A 1911 Hupmobile just sold for $21K on Bring a Trailer, you could try putting the T up for sale there with a reserve to test the waters. :)

Bring A Trailer

Post by Novice » Tue Sep 01, 2020 1:15 pm

Mark. There is a Brass. 1911 Ford Model T touring for sale on Bring A Trailer now. Goggle. bat auctions I bring a trailer.
The car spent the past decade in the IMS Museum’s climate-controlled storage facility, and in preparation for the sale museum staff cleaned the carburetor and inspected the spark box. This Model T is now offered by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation with a clean Indiana title.

A very nice 1910 model year made in 1909. Correct for a 1910, ,not correct for a 1909.

For Sale a newly restored 1909 Model T - SOLD

Post by TonyB » Tue Mar 30, 2021 11:46 am

The 1909 Model T sold to a gentleman in Canada. He had it professionally moved and seemed to have no problems at the boarder.
It was a fun project to restore though not very profitable. Kim Dobbins told me this going into it so my eyes were wide open. Had a charged myself minimum wage ($15/hr), I would have lost money.
Moral is do it for fun not profit.
