SOLD - 1922 Model T Touring "Popeye" For Sale
1922 Touring for sale. Titled as a 1922 based on engine number, but it has a one-man top so I believe the car dates to late 1922 as model years changed.
The car is in great shape but hasn't run for several years. Stored in a closed garage. I installed floating hubs from Birdhaven along with new driveshaft and new axles when I rebuilt the rear end - but new owner might want to check the rear end for safety's sake to ensure the work was done correctly (I am a shade-tree mechanic...). It has a large-drum Ruckstell rear axle. There is a "belly band" under the motor.
The car has no magnets on the flywheel, but has oil slingers. It runs a distributor and has an Optima Red-Top battery. For safety in the garage I installed a master cutoff switch which completely isolates the battery. It has a Fun Projects voltage regulator. I have the front and rear bumper irons. Five new tires were installed when I got the car, they have been driven less than 100 miles.
The interior upholstry is perfect and the top was only recently installed. Both front and rear floormats are present.
The car's name is Popeye - you can see why if you look at the headlights. I have never seen another car with those headlight lenses. They are one-of-a-kind. The car came to me from Royce Peterson.
This car will run and run well, but it has set in the garage unmoved for almost three years. It will require a fuel tank and carburetor clean out.
The car is located in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Text or call my cell number: 7-oh-three-four-7-7-five-two-9-4.
Asking $8,500 - or make me an offer I cant refuse...

Re: 1922 Model T Touring "Popeye" For Sale
Very happy to answer any questions. I am selling due to back problems. Since I cannot use the car as I'd like, it's preferable to pass it along to the next caretaker.

Those headlights crack me up! Reminds me of that thyroid disease that makes your eyes bulge!!
Afraid if I had that car they'd be gone!! No offense to the seller, please. Just an opinion.

Seriously though, those lenses would act as side lights and help you to be seen from the side. A great option not reflected in the price!

Re: 1922 Model T Touring "Popeye" For Sale
If a person had one of those Wheelie T parade cars, a set of lenses similar to those could be made up and equipped with hinged, weighted "pupils" that would appear to look downward as the front of the car lifted. Ping pong balls painted black would do for "pupils". The effect would be visible from the front and sides.

Re: 1922 Model T Touring "Popeye" For Sale
It looks like it would be a good driver and looks original enough that most people except some very particular Model T owners would not know the difference. It would be fun for tours, parades, and other events except for shows which award the most original and cleanest car. It has more to offer than the first T I bought. But after fixing some bugs I got mine running well and went on many long tours with it. Only once on a tour was I on a trouble truck and at the next stop, I fixed the problem which was a loose wire in the ignition system, so took it off the trailer and drove it the rest of the way. You might get lucky with the gas if you drain the tank completely and clean out the sediment bulb and screen. Then clean up the carburetor and it might run just fine.
