1916 Touring – Southern California ($8,500)
I purchased this car a few years ago to restore but unexpectedly ended up inheriting my father’s Touring (past MTFCA president and BOD). The engine serial number (casting date 6-12-16) matches the registration going back to 1956. The car runs on battery and magneto and is fun to drive. It can either be driven as-is or would be a great platform to make perfect. This is an older restoration that has been reasonably maintained but there are signs of wear in the paint and upholstery. I’ve replaced or rebuilt several parts on the car in 2024 (detailed below) and done some light maintenance (oil change, clean timer, adjust bands). Located in Burbank, CA.

Details:
- Front wheels rebuilt in 2024 by Dave Seiler in Brea, CA to tighten them up and replace a few spokes. Right front wheel has Timken bearings. Left front wheel has the original ball bearings. Both were cleaned, repacked, and new neoprene dust shields installed.
- New radiator hoses, clamps, steel pipe, inlet connection and inlet connection bolts.
- Radiator appears to have been replaced at some point and is in nice condition (no visible corrosion, clean brass). Includes working brass moto-meter.
- Four freshly rebuilt coils by Ron Patterson and a fifth one as a spare.
- New Autolite spark plugs.
- Holly NH carburetor recently rebuilt and painted.
- New manifold rings and copper gaskets.
- Headlights have new reflectors, dual contact sockets, adjusting screws/springs, retaining rings and H style glass. I intentionally did not wire them since the new owner may have a preference for how they would like them configured.
- New fan belt.
- External brakes. These are labeled as Miller Brakes, and similar to Rocky Mountains.
- Upholstery shows signs of wear.
- Handophone horn. The original electric horn button is mounted on the steering column but the wires have been cut and there is no electric (magneto) horn under the hood.
- Top is complete however one of the top bows has become detached from the top so it can’t currently be put up. In addition, it’s been configured to strap to the front fender, which is clearly not period correct.
- Tires are older but in decent shape. Tubes hold air but do need to be inflated every so often.
- Engine has likely not been rebuilt in recent history and does have some occasional popping in the exhaust manifold when idling. When driving, the car sounds and run well with plenty of power.
- Drivers side front wheel spindle does have a groove worn in the bottom part of the shaft (~1/16-1/8” deep) where the axle nut screws on.
- All body panels appear to be original with no major damage, other than a few holes in the running boards and one hold in the drivers side fender skirt.
- Side lamp and tail lamp doors have been replaced with new reproductions.
- Current CA title and registration with Horeseless Carriage plates.
