SOLD I am selling my left and right set of brass sidelamps, made in Elmira, NY by the Castle Lamp Company, Model 204. They are in pretty good shape with triple chimneys, engravings on the tops and all beveled glass and ruby red lenses intact. Someone has electrified them and added a lightbulb base and wiring, therefore the fonts for the wicks are gone, but those can be converted back. One has the wick wheel intact. They have dust, dirt and some white paint on them but are solid and hard to find being so old. They still have their square mounting screws in the brackets as well.

These are not for Model T. The Castle lamp company and Atwood castle are not the same. Ford used Atwood Castle. Atwood Castle was located in Amesbury, MA

Yours are the same Castle lamps seen on page 53 of Bruce's Black Book, incorrectly described there as Atwood Castle lamps, and described as 1909 issue. Never seen or heard of a #204 Atwood Castle lamp, so if someone has one or a credible photo, please post it.

Scott, Atwood castle was a supplier of lamps for Ford in 1909, but Castle was not. Two different companies. The Atwood Castle lamps in 1909 were #104. I have had the #204 Castle lamps before, but I don’t see why ford would go out of his way to supply side lamps by a different company. While the 204 castle is listed in Bruce’s black book, I think he made a mistake thinking the Castle 204 was an Atwood castle lamp because he saw it on someone’s car.

I've not seen verifiable data that either supports or refutes Bruce's assumption about this lamp. Certain is that Castle Lamp became a product line of the newly formed Atwood Castle Co in 1908 (I have a set of Castle oil lamps where the side lamps say Made in Elmira, but the where the tail lamp says Made in Amesbury). If multiple lamp models were furnished by Atwood Castle for the 1909 Ford. this would not have been a unique situation, as per the example of the 1909 E&J lamp models that had both 2 and 3 tier chimneys.

As to Bruce's basis for comments about the #204...his information resources by 1994 were known to be vast. I doubt that he saw a particular component on an 85 year old car where he assumed this as testament to its originality... I'm no expert on anything...just my opinion.

This is very interesting, and certainly a fun debate. Either way those lamps will look good on someones car.
