Re: WTB Engine hoist
Randall,
I too would like to have one, so I have asked a local blacksmith what it would cost to make one based on the detailed drawings in "Modern Methods of Ford Repair" that was mentioned last year when this topic was discussed, and where your pictures came from I think. He is working me up a cost now, but he wonders if there would be enough general interest to justify him making a run of 10, as this would bring the cost down.
Anybody else want one, depending on cost of course?
Ralph

What a nice shop, Steve!
Do you recall what lumens are for your lighting? It looks to be a well lit place and I am in the planning stages for my shop. Don't have my paperwork near but I believe I am shooting for 100 per sq/ft.

Re: WTB Engine hoist
I heard back from my blacksmith about making a copy of the hoist from the original plans. He will make me one for about $325, but if there is enough interest to justify making a run of 10, he would make a jig which would allow him to make additional ones for about $275. Anybody interested?

Re: WTB Engine hoist
They are definitely cool and handy tools, but a word of caution... I believe the valve cover side of this tool lifts directly on the underside of the water jacket. The thickness of the casting in this area was originally around 1/8” and is far thinner in most engines still in operation today. It is possible that some seemingly usable blocks could potentially receive water jacket damage if lifted in this manner. I’ve found running engines that have around 1/32” or less of good iron on the outside overlain by hard oxide on the inside in these areas. The oxide is not structural.
