Door Hinge Mounting Bolts/Nuts

Post by SurveyKing » Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:14 am

I would like to buy used or NOS door hinge mounting bolts and nuts, enough for all three doors. This is for the 1915-1924 style hinges. These go through the door posts on both sides of the hinges. Email or message me with what you have.

Thanks

Saw you add. I found some door bolts at Ace hardware that were almost if not identical for my 21 Touring. There were 2 original that were still in the remains of the body that I used for a match.

John, thanks for that. Perhaps I could find some new ones but at this point, I do not even have one original to use as a go by to get the right size.

Hello again
Here is a pic of what the screw looks like that’s used on T open car door hinges. I have a 21 Touring that I restored and used new screws for the hinges. In the pic is a extra hinge that has an original hinge screw in it. I saved it as the others were shot.
You can take your hinge to a hardware store and use it to match some screws to use with it.
As you can see the originals were slot headed bolts that had counter sunk heads that would flush fit in the hinge holes.
Seems like there are some that you use wood screws with the same head in some of the hinge holes.
Hope this helps.
John

Hi John, can you give me the length of that screw?

Hi again
The length of the screw in the pic is 1 1/2”. If you look in the picture you can see it used a square head nut. I can’t remember if the hardware store (Ace) had square head nuts but seems to me you could use hex head nuts anyway. I did use flat washers though because they were on there originally. One door on my car had just one screw all the way through the wood. And the rest were wood screws. You need to use at least one screw that goes all the way through the body pillar to keep the door from eventually sagging. And always pre drill the holes where your using wood screws as it makes it easier to install the screw. Always drill a little smaller than what the screw is. The screws that are avaliable now are all thread probably most of the time now. If they are longer than 1 1/2” it won’t hurt. Buy some to see for sure if that’s the right length for your car.
Hope this helps
John

Daniel how many do you need total with the nuts?

I have them in 1/4” x 20 thread zinc plated.
