Original Ammeter FS

Post by Mark Osterman » Wed Mar 11, 2020 11:00 pm

Nice original ammeter. The surround is a little beat up and there is only one tab, but once it’s screwed into the instrument panel it would be secure. $40 plus post.

Hi Mark, do you still have your ammeter for sale? I've never seen one in person as my car (1924) has a modern small ammeter and adapter plate, so I don't know what you mean by "only one tab". And, the ammeter works normally? Thanks! Allan Hesch, Eugene Oregon, 541-579-3000

The back side of the outer ring is held to the meter housing via bent over tabs that hold the ring on when the meter is not mounted in the car. When mounted the tabs serve no function typically. On your '24 the only part of this meter that would be visible to driver or passengers is the inner meter face and the shiny painted part of the ring portion where the glass sits. That part goes through the dash from behind thus hiding the portion of the meter that has dings in it. The outer ring portion is not going to show assuming this meter is mounted in your car using an original stock mount. Some original meters are in perfect working order. There is no adjustment to these meters typically so you won't know how "bouncy" it is or how accurate it is. If you were local I could test it on my Hewlett Packard digital high current source and tell you exactly how accurate it is (none were perfect) and you soon learn what is normal and what is not normal with your electrical system if your meter is anywhere in the realm of +/- 5% accurate at full scale.

Hope this helps.

Yours looks like it could be a Sterling. There are two types. The early style says Sterling, and the later one says SMC.
