Hi, I opened my transmission and my Magneto need to be replaced on my 1913. I would like to buy a good used or new one for my 1913 engine.

There is one on the Model T Haven web page in there e bay store . It looks to be like the one in your pictures . I thank 1909 to 1911 . the next generation looks similar but smaller centers . 1912 to 1914 .

Mario, if you have not already done so, now is an excellent time to check and recharge your magnets. They are pretty much always weak and sometimes you'll find one or two that are cracked. Also, the spacer spools and brass screws should be replaced as they crystallize with age and often break.

Stephen has made a good point in recharging the magnets. You will have to tare every thing down to replace the magneto ring anyway. Replace the brass screws and the small spools. I would get a newly rewound and insulated magneto ring.
After 100 years the insulation gets bad. Good luck.

I hauled four of them to Hershey last year and never sold any of them, had a price of 50 bucks and you could take your pick a couple where in perfect condition, everyone said how rare they, well they are now melted down into scrap!

Joe, did you get any were near $200.00 for them as scrap? I have never understood why someone won't take a certain price for a part, but will sell it for scrap at a fraction of the price. I have seen it for years, makes no sense to me. JMHO. Dave

Besides, you wouldn't have had to drag them back home if sold at scrap price at the swap meet. I don't get it???? Dave

Before hershey some one on the forum was talking how rare they are, so I decided to haul some and post a head of time where they would be, not even a looker at them.

Hi Stephan, for sure I will recharging the magnets. I will try to post the manner I did the recharge. I invent something fun with an old starter and polarized the North and the South on each magnet. If someone could remember me how to compress the big spring without a pressure hydrolique machine, I will appreciated.

Joe, uh, if they were only worth scrap price ,why did you price them at 50 bucks? Not quite understanding that.I know it is all to common for folks to ask a price for something but then,suddenly it is only worth 4 cent a pound and it is lost.

These early ones (not the early-est) aren't super plentiful but aren't all that rare. Most restorers replace them with the later single stack type when they rebuild their engines. The early ones go up on the shelf and eventually get sold. I have at least a dozen of them including at least two of the earliest ones that use 3/8" wide copper.

Sorry Mario, they are gone! Mack the single stacks go for 10 the double go for 25-30 so I figured 50 for the real early ones, and as RV said most change them out for 1/4 and ring geared flywheels so in case some day we get old and can not crank any more.

If you like a little challenge , it is not hard to rewind the coils yourself . The double stack take more care , but just take more time . I made my own tools to do the job . I am not a machinist with the normal tools found in a home garage . A good book to get you started is the MTFCA The Electrical System .
