Want to buy pitman arm

Post by Michael Paul » Sun May 24, 2020 5:52 pm

Happy memorial weekend! Trying to assemble my 09 chassis and have learned the the early pitman arms are shorter than the later ones. How long did they use the short one? Does anyone have one they would like to part with? Thanks Mike

From this MTFCA discussion http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/41 ... 1402878003
1909: A= 2-1/8"; B= 3-1/2"; keyway is 1/8" x 1/4"
1910: A= 2-27/32"; B= 4-1/2"
1912: keyway is 9/64" x 1/4"
1917: A= 3-11/32" (this drawings shows the arm to have an oval shaped cross section)
1922: cross section changed to pronounced diamond shape
1926: A= 2-15/32"; B= 3-1/2"

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

I believe Bob Bergstad (Bob's Antique Auto Parts in Rockford, IL) had one available a while back.

Thanks for the great information. It's amazing how many subtle changes Henry Ford made. So if I understand this correctly, the 26/27 and the 09 are a very close match other than the keyway depth? I was told using the longer pitman arm can be problematic with the one piece spindle axel, but it appears it was used in 1910. Has anyone had problems using the longer arm? I'll contact Bob and see if he still has it. Thanks mtfca, this forum and all its members have been a great help!
