WTB buggy rail

Post by Bill Elliott » Thu Jul 23, 2020 4:44 pm

I need a buggy rail for my 1910 touring if anyone has one lying around. I know Ray Wells sells them but I'd like to find a good used one to save some money; brand new aren't cheap!

Bill, I find it interesting that you are looking for a Buggy rail, I am wondering what a Buggy rail is. I think what you may want is what my dad called a Robe rail that would go on the back of the front seat to hold a Robe or Blanket for the rear seat passengers. When I was a lot younger dad had a two seat sleigh with a Robe rail and a Bear skin robe to go with it. When he passed I received a nice more modern heavy wool blanket that can hang on the rail on my 1920 touring car. I also have a circa. 1895 Brockway Buggy that is restored, single seat buggy's have no rail but two seat carriages like two seat sleighs may. It really doesn't matter what you call it as long as you get what you want. Buggy Rails Matter. lol George

George, the early T's (1909/10) actually had a rail attached to the top of the rear seat that the top sockets and top attached to. They were a lot like the rails used on carriages so I guess that's where the name came from. The robe rail attaches to the back of the front seat and was used for hanging a blanket on to keep to the rear occupants warm on chilly days.
