Wanted: Perry Auto Lock PA 129 key.

Post by ivaldes1 » Sun Aug 09, 2020 3:36 pm

I have Perry Auto Lock that has no key on it. The lock says Yale and PA 129 stamped on it. I am looking for a key for it. MTFCA discussion and pictures of what these are is here: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/25 ... 1333215460

Ignacio,

It looks like it uses a standard "Yale" key. And from your photo is looks like they broke a key off in the lock cylinder -- although that may just be dirt?

If you locate a real lock smith (there are fewer and fewer of them), they can usually salvage the lock cylinder and make you a key. I had one made for my original 1931 locking door handle back around 1982 or so and I had one made for my accessory coil box lock on my 1918 "Donor" T [bummer of a name for a car....] back in 2000 or so. In both cases they gave no guarantee they could do it, but said they would try. And both times they were able to salvage the lock cylinder (they had both been stored in dry inside storage). The first key was expensive ($25 or $35 dollars back then -- you could purchase a complete replacement Model A locking door handle for around the same amount). But the next 3 additional keys were a $1.50 each or something very reasonable.

Is there something stuck in your the lock cylinder?

Good luck with your project.

Respectfully submitted,

Hap l9l5 cut off

I thought it was a busted key too but it was just some crud. That's what I was thinking too getting an old school locksmith if I can find one. If someone has a clear picture of what the key might have looked like that would help. I've seen some ambiguous pictures.

So far this is a bust. I took it to a local locksmith. Ater a month they gave up on it saying they could not find a key blank for it and had thrown away their antique code books. They also could not pick it. I did clean out the key way and oil it they probably did too but so far nothing. The locksmith said even a picture of a proper key would be helpful. They said they could drill it if they had to but I don't want to destroy it yet. If anyone has anything advise or a picture of the proper key for this it would be greatly appreciated.

The yale key is marked "security". I could not find it listed in my old code book. The blank probably is very hard to find at this time.

Ignacicio, The first thing that needs to be done is to thoroughly clean the lock cylinder. From a locksmith's point of view, I don't know whether they would prefer to do it, or whether they would want the owner to do it. They might have a particular way that they prefer. After its clean, a good locksmith may be able to "impession" the cut of the original key, without removing the lock cylinder, or he may have to remove the cylinder from the auto lock. Either way a good locksmith should be able to help. The only lock I have ever had (and there have been a few) that I haven't been able to have repaired was an original Briggs & Stratton door lock cylinder for my 27 T, because it was made of pot metal and had swollen. Try the last locksmith that I used in Rosenburg. I'll post his name and number when I find it.

Thanks, I have been directed to https://www.lostakey.net/ and that it is a '1000 key for Yale and Towne Vintage padlocks and Yale Series 8' so here goes...

Ignacio, as I emailed you, there are more than one possible blank. The number 1000 Yale blank is just one of several possibilities. Hopefully Josh at lostakey can determine which one that you need from your key cut number.

Unfortunately lostakey gave up because the PA key blank is discontinued.
