FOUND! - Rayfield intake manifold for L2P, L2C, etc.

Post by Scott_Conger » Sat Feb 06, 2021 6:26 pm

This manifold has an offset to push the carb out toward the frame, and has a built-in bell-crank to operate the throttle.

Thank you for looking, and please send me an email if you think you can help.

Thanks Stan

I was pretty sure you had one, and was pretty sure it had a carb on it! Unfortunately, not in the market for a third one...just the manifold.

Stay warm...it is -8 here but at least has stopped snowing.

Sure Donnie
Just got permission from Stan Howe to use one of his pictures.
The intake swoops "out" sort of like an early "T" dogleg and has a built-in belcrank to actuate the throttle linkage. It also has a "slot" instead of a hole in the forward mounting position, since the bel-crank boss impeeds the instalation of a long enough bolt through just a hole (the slot is not a post-purchase modification...it is original). A picture of one of Stan's set ups is this:

Thank you Stan.

Scott, my manifold is similar. It is dog legged like the one you show. But mine has a hole on both sides and a "stop" for something, where the bell crank is in Stan's photo. I think it was designed for a "choke or throttle" plate ??? . Ill try to remember to post a photo of it tomorrow. I think it could be made to work by installing something for a bell crank mount. It is solid brass and would look good with a brass carb.

Donnie

now THAT is neat! What a lovely bit of casting that is!
purely speculation but I wonder if there was an apparatus which would reduce the cross section such that velocity would be increased to maintain vaporization of fuel while engine was cold, which would be opened fully when at normal temperature (??)

Your efforts and interest are greatly appreciated, but it's not something I could forsee using...though I AM looking forward to finding out what this thing is, as you are too. Who knows, I may be passing on some fabulous bit of racing history, but that has been the story of my life! My heart says "buy it", but my wallet says "you can't afford it". HAHA!

Donnie's brass manifold is part of a governor when a T engine is used as a power plant. I have the flyball part that goes in the generator hole.

You would open the throttle on the carburetor at a redline setting. The governor, controlling the manifold throttle plate, kept the RPMs in line, opening as needed but returning to reasonable revs when unloaded.
