WTB Good set of rods and pistons
Want to freshen 1925 engine with complete valve job and new rings. Now find two pistons are bad, but bearings and crank look good. I don't think engine has ever been apart. If I can find a set 0f rods and pistons it would save me from a complete overhaul. Thanks to all of you!

I was of course going to hone the engine and with new (used) pistons would have to bore the engine.

Is it still standard bore, or an oversize ? Same on the rods. Are rod journals standard or under-size? Want iron or aluminum pistons?

Re: WTB Good set of rods and pistons
I have a set of original ford script 0.0025 OS cast pistons I took out of my 27 TT engine. They should clean up pretty good. You can have them for $15 plus whatever the shipping will be. I’m pretty sure you can get a set of 0.010 OS rings and file them to fit the cylinders.

Re: WTB Good set of rods and pistons
Don, Best to use a bore gauge & measure cylinder bore & taper. also pistons & rods should be weighed when using Mismatched parts and all 4 piston rod assemblies' be same or similar in weight. George

Re: WTB Good set of rods and pistons
Engine has never been apart so you need cast iron pistons? In what way are the pistons bad? Do they just need the skirt cleaned up, need bushings or?
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Re: WTB Good set of rods and pistons
The pistons themselves are OK I believe. It is the rod fit to the wrist pins on two of the four pistons that are bad. The wrist pin has a lot of movement in the piston. I hope I am making clear the problem, I am not a mechanic, but trying.

Re: WTB Good set of rods and pistons
If the wrist pins are loose in the cast iron pistons with 'play', the wrist pin bushings are worn. The original standard cylinder bore was 3.750, so if your pistons measure3.738, that's .012 under-size. What is stamped on top of the pistons? STD., .0025, .005, 010, .031, or .033 ? These were the replacement sizes from Ford. If you measured your pistons, correctly, .012 wear should produce a heck of a racket from piston slap and should affect your compression, too. I'd remeasure your pistons and the cylinder bores. If you don't have a bore gauge, at least measure each cylinder bore near the top and bottom of each cylinder. As for piston rings for the cast iron pistons, they are available from most vendors in STD, .010, .020. .030, .040, and .060. Piston pin bushings are available from the vendors in a set of 8, but you may find someone on the forum who has some singles (you'll need 2 for each one of your two bad pistons).

Re: WTB Good set of rods and pistons
Measured pistons again today. Still come up with 3.738 to 3.736. This T sitting long time, but I did get it running without much difficulty. Runs a little rough with compression of 35lbs on all cylinders. Pistons are cast Iron STD. Thanks for your advice. Don
