WTB - Running Board Luggage Rack Brackets

Post by CudaMan » Sat Apr 10, 2021 4:47 pm

I want to mount a small tool box onto the running board of my 1912 Flanders, but I don't want to drill any holes in the running board. Does anyone have a pair of luggage rack brackets or an otherwise trashed luggage rack that I can cannibalize for the brackets? I hate to buy and cut up a perfectly good, complete luggage rack.

Mark, alternatively, you could bolt a base board to the running board using any existing bolts and then simply screw the tool box to the baseboard. Not quite as easily reversed, but does not require any drilling.

Thank you all for your replies, pictures of what you have are welcome. User sweet23 is also going to send me pictures of some he has.

I looked at bolting down a board using existing holes and bolting the box to the board, but the box is so small that part of the board would show, see the latest pic in my Flanders OT thread. :)

Couple of ideas\ Would be to difficult to have some brackets made like in the photo. Bend some bar stock, drill couple of holes and thread one and add bent elevator bolt. Made to size

Still looking - Darryl's (sweet23) racks are too complete and nice to cut up just to get the brackets. Thanks for looking, Darryl. :)

I may look at fabricating a pair of straps that would bolt to the bottom of the box, then bend the ends to clip securely around the inside and outside edges of the running board.

Mark. I have several racks that are pretty rusty.
I'll look later and see if the mounts are useable on the rougher ones....

These all will probably need the heat wrench to free up the threads and I can cut the mounts off of the one you pick for easier shipping....

Thanks Dave, the one on the right of the upper photo looks like a good candidate (red arrow). The two end brackets look to be long enough to stretch across the width of the running board, providing good support for the box.

I hate to see a complete rack cut up, but if that's the only way to get the end brackets, then so be it. I will send you an email with my shipping address and you can reply with instructions on how you want to be paid.

Update - I received the brackets from Dave, blasted and painted them, and mounted them to the bottom of the tool box and the running board.
I have a little touch up work to do with a brush, but I like how it turned out. Thanks again Dave! :)
