This Is a serious tool. I have been Balancing Cranks, Flywheels an Transmission Drums for over 50 Years with One just like Dan's. I have never had a customer question or complain about a vibration on any motor or transmission that I've done since I started to Balance with mine.

Dan & Bill how is the flywheel balance? On the crank or alone by itself. If together how is it counterweighted? If by it’s self how is the fly wheel mounted? Thanks for the info on the neat jig.

I first balance the triple gears, then put them on their pins, mount the flywheel on arbor. Flywheel on to stand, find heavy side and remove weight till balanced by same way Ford did drill bit.

I heard that you cannot use a a static balancer to balance a crankshaft. Fine for flywheels and drums. My experience is to dynamically balance the crank. Then assemble the flywheel and trans shaft as they will run in the car and dynamically balance the flywheel as attached to the crank and trans shaft. I have a very smooth running 10 touring car balanced that way. The triple gears were weight balanced, the drums dynamically balanced. The brake drum and diving plate were balanced as a unit. Again as they were to run in the car. I did the same on a 12 roadster and a 27 roadster. The difference is very noticable.

Rgould1910 The Ford crank rods and mains come in at 1.2485 … It is a bent piece of rebar at best even static balanced with brake drum low speed and drive plate is a massive improvement from how Henry built them

And if you want a real joke, the holes drilled in Model A cranks are just holes. The employees were treated like crap, so they went thru the motion of balancing. Never seen one balanced from the factory.

Just Sayin'

Hank

And I am still baffled that this jig has not sold..., Uhmmm.
