Looks like a big number pad for a 13 block. Maybe the picture?
Better look at that last 3 close. Dan

Well Dan you are right. What in the world has happened. I have a 12-13 and 14; those have the small stamp area.the one 13 the numbers actually call it a jan.14 ; but the cast on the block says 13. The13 for sale has the cast numbers 13 but it is a bigger stamp area. Can someone enlighten me

Kinda looks like the 3 in the date embossing has been monkeyed with. The area in front of it doesn't have the same roughness as the rest of the block. It could have been an 8 that was modified. The number boss looks funny too. Too smooth. Was it milled down and restamped? For sure the stamped numbers aren't right. Ford never used tiny numbers. Does anyone know when the number pad was widened?

I have seen a few 18 blocks that were turned into 13 blocks. What kind of freeze plugs does this block have? Dan

Mr.dan hatch got the ball rolling on this one.the no. Pad was his first clue. The freeze plugs was next. There's a ring gear for a starter.jumped on the forum and guys kept saying it was an 18. It just went over my head. Evidently it was a 18 engine and someone ground the 8 to make a 3. Please do not think I did this!! I would have been the dumb one that bought.thanks to all of you who helped. I do have a low head I'll post for sale later.i don't think you can fake that one

Don’t junk the engine! Someone might want to buy it who needs it for a 1918. If the block is good sell it as possible 18 which it does seem to be. If your concerned someone would buy it
and use it for a 13 or whatever fill a bill of sale stating the issue, have the buyer sign it and you keep a copy. Of course a ‘purist’ wouldn’t want it like it is but if someone needed it the 3 could be turned back to an 8 and a 1918 serial no. put on it. If I needed an 18 block that’s what I would do. But what would others do ?
But it’s your block to do with whatever or however.

I would not want that block as a 13 but it is over 100 years old and someone could use it. Maybe you could stamp it as reproduction so it could not be passed off as the real deal later. It would be a shame to junk it. I vote to let someone have it knowing what it is.

I agree with Bob. Let someone have it knowing what it is.

I am fully in agreement with John and Bob. It IS a good block. Someone needs it. Disclose the issue and sell it if you like. As long as you disclosed it, they have nothing to complain about.
