Looking for a rear transmission drum-REVISED

Post by avent40 » Fri Jul 30, 2021 6:45 am

Hi, I am looking for a good used rear transmission drum, any help will be appreciated. Revised: Sorry, I need the drum just to bend my metal bands around, I was given this good advice since I am new to this and I have to change my bands soon for my first time. I really appreciate this forum because thanks to you guys I am able to fix certain things and keep this Hobby going. Because living in Staten island, I cant find any mechanics or anybody to help me. I rely mostly on the manuals, YouTube, and this forum. Car has been in storage for almost 2 years and want to get it back on the road. Thanks! God bless!

That would be the brake drum. Do you need the narrow 1909-1915 or wide 1926/27? For your 1922 (narrow type)?

You've struggled through carb trouble, then electrical wires burning up, for which you contacted me privately where I made several suggestions and asked that several questions be answered to better understand the problem, and you never let me know how your troubleshooting turned out or what was ultimately found. If you still have electrical trouble, as well, I'm sorry we did not continue with the diagnosis, and if the electrical troubles are now fixed, you're welcome.

Only 3 days ago you posted on the forum that you wanted to buy bands and now you need a transmission drum.

Somewhere along the way, I suggested that you find help locally. That advice was pretty good advice I think, and still stands

Anthony contacted me and he has thankfully resolved his electrical problem. Anthony I apologize for coming off harshly.

with regards to the drum, he is looking for a tooling drum to form bands around, so I would suspect that he would be happy with any non-serviceable drum which could be used for forming the band.

Anthony- just FYI- any trans drum will work for what you are going to use it for.

Anthony,

You don't need to buy a drum just take a few pieces of plywood cut into a circle the same size as your drums and wrap the bands around it to achieve the desired shape.

Dennis - I used the same method when I changed my band linings the last time. I didn’t have an extra brake or transmission drum laying around, but I did have plenty of 2x10 scraps and a band saw.

He sent me a PM and I also made the wood suggestion, but added using a 1" pipe flange and piece of pipe, so it could be held in a vice.
