Battery Box
Battery box lower half. I have been asked to make another run of these. They are exactly the same as the originals. I haven't had any made for at least two years, so the price will probably be higher than before. If I can get orders for ten or more I will consider having them made.

From past discussion - like the originals, especially how seamed. He's making the lower half only

Re: Battery Box
Did a ‘24 Touring have an actual battery box? My ‘24 Touring was delivered just yesterday, and it just has the open carrier hanging from the frame, and nothing actually holding the battery down except for the rear floorboards.SurveyKing wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 10:39 pmLarry,

Re: Battery Box
Miles,
1921-24 did have a metal box part number 5158 and a cover part number 5159 according to the March 1924 Parts listing. I believe the box and cover were also used up through 1927 as well. My 1924 was acquired in 1986 and never had a box either, but I am restoring back to original as much as practical and feel it is time for one.

Re: Battery Box
Thanks Daniel. Where would the battery box have been located on a ‘24 Touring? The carrier on mine is under the back floorboard. My ‘25 Express Wagon also has a carrier there, but it’s inaccessible due to the bed, and has a box on the left running board.SurveyKing wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 12:24 amMiles,

Re: Battery Box
Here is a picture of the carrier and battery box on my cut-off 1924 touring (now a tilt-bed pickup). I'm pretty sure it is in the correct position. Forward is to the right, so the battery is on the driver side of the car. This picture was taken before I replaced the home-made wood box with the correct size metal box. I have a lid, but right now it is on my display battery/box combo and not on my car.

Ah, I get it now… The battery box goes in the carrier. My Touring came with the battery directly in the carrier.

Re: Battery Box
The battery boxes are being made! I'm having a dozen made at this time. If more people are interested, I can bump it up, but after that it will not be possible. I can't give a price now. I will try to include my design for the handles that are used to help hold the lid on. Once again, these Do Not include the lid. You must obtain your own original. Dan Killecut had two at Hershey, and neither sold! Keep on watching this post to keep informed.

I have a box requested, but since I'm asking, please think about making another run of oem exhaust pipes again. I would take at least two. Does pretty please with sugar on top help. If you have extra boxes made can I bump it up to two?

Re: Battery Box
I'm running a standard group 1 in my car. You will need to make a thin plywood bottom to bring the battery up so it will be even with the top edge of the battery box. Please understand the original Ford batteries helped support the battery box top. I copied the handles for the wood battery case exactly, and welded them to a thin piece of angle iron, which I made from a piece of box tubing which I cut diagonally. I also had to shim two sides of the group one to keep it snug in the battery box.

Re: Battery Box
Thank you for the update info - was expecting the need to shim - nothing is made the same anymore. By the way, in case you hadn't tried, you can print this entire discussion to get a list of all those requesting one or more boxes. I also made a PDF of it up to this point that you can file or print to mark up and count. Thinking ahead - when do you need our addresses, reconfirming the number of boxes wanted and what form of payment will you want (Check, PayPal to a Friend, other?)
Really appreciate your doing this.
