Made a mistake: for a 1919 Model T Ford.

Re: Looking for early Model T ammeter
The early style ammeters are usually not in working condition, because of the pot metal used inside.

Re: Looking for early Model T ammeter
I have been trying to document switch plate differences. The earliest 1919 plate was unique with a cast handle and a center retainer for the tumbler and its markings. These pictures also show that unique ammeter style. There were many suppliers on the plates and ammeters for the rectangular plate and likely little documentation on what was used when and with what. Having said that, the ammeter style should complement the plate design and the artist rendering matches a unique ammeter design with a plate with a cast handle. The other picture show the many different ammeters that fit the rectangular plate. I also included a picture of a reproduction ammeter that had been available from suppliers about 2 years ago. A picture of your plate may help.

Here are some indicators to help identify a possible working ammeter.
1. The needle moves
- if its slightly off center it may still be good. Just remember these ammeters were "indicators" not scientific instruments.
2. The 3 tabs holding the bezel to the ammeter case don't look like they have been messed with. If the ammeter looks good and some tabs are missing its possible to secure the bezel with small grommets like the reproduction.
3. The contact posts are secured tightly and the nuts can be removed.
4. The ammeter face needs to be in good condition - It is not possible to clean it and only a surgeon can replace it without bending the needle.
5. I had a glass lens cut by a local Stain Glass outfit. They immediately suggested using "lens" glass, a bit thicker than window glass. Labor, material, grounding the edges smooth, and no tax or shipping. A perfect fit and finish for $5
It is possible to clean them up and to replace the insulation material . The Tiffany is not the famous TIFFANY but just Tiffany Electrical Co.

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Re: Looking for early Model T ammeter
I only have the plate and CLUM pin type switch assembly which has the early 1919 cast nickle plated switch lever. The switch is the four rivet type with the FORD logo below the switch lever.

Re: Looking for early Model T ammeter
The dimensions for these ammeters should all be the same. Can verify. The question is how exact to you want to match to a (uncertain) style for that year. I have posted pictures of 12 ammeters, not mine, none of which have a face exactly matching this one (Ford below needle, small screws on either side of AMPERES . I have one similar, email me if interested.
I found a listing for a "1919" sold last year.

Re: Looking for early Model T ammeter
Thanks for the reply frank.
The original ammeter is damaged badly, it looked very much like the one in your last picture.
Is this the type you have available?
If so I am interested, how much would you be asking for it?

Steve Boothroyd
