Looking for a good/working ignition switch. I've had two "new" switches that failed in one way or another quickly after installation. The one that is presently installed fails at times because the keyway is so loose the contacts fail and the key almost falls out. I want to get back to an original switch.Has anyone had luck with the rebuild kits offered by current suppliers? Can they be used with repro switches like I have currently installed?

I have rebuilt several switches with original and repro parts. The repro tumbler assembly does require a bit of fitting. The other "rebuild" part is the backing plate (pin or clip style). The "new" switch plates use the same parts so not sure what you might gain. The components behind the face-plate, rectangular or oval, are pretty much the same. However there are variations of those components. AND there were some entirely different switch designs. The most common look like the image below.

A loose switch and contact issues may be due to the tumbler not fitting into the small disk towards the back of the switch.
I sent you an email so you can send me some pictures to figure out whats going on with it.

The way the handles are designed for the switch determines if the rivets holding the cup containing the switch parts requires the removal of rivets to get to the tumbler
