WTB Texas T VW Distributor

My Texas T VW Made in China VW Style Distributor is so worn the points can hardly function and open.

About 20 years ago, I had the same situation and sent the distributor back to Texas Ts for a rebuild.

I got one back that looked and worked like new, but that is no longer an option.

The real Bosch plastic parts are also getting difficult to find!

Are those parts available any place?

Would anyone have a used, but good Texas T Distributor?

This distributor was Made in China
either with the proper lobes never there or almost totally worn off, which is not likely!
The bottom bushing was worn excessively, but the top bushing was hardly worn.
That shaft is not likely a sold separate repair item!
The 009 distributors are getting difficult to find and my last one is on that engine now!

I think these were reproduction 009 distributors so its important to have a model number to find mating parts
I doubt if the shaft & bottom bushings would be Bosch parts by rather a Texas T parts
Bushings can be made if their original dimensions are know.
Don't know what "plastic parts" you are referring to

Frank, I now have two friends with Texas T VW Distributor needs.

The one you noted above now has a good running engine with my last loaner VW distributor.

One has the Made in China Pink one and he is using my last spare VW Distributor.

I only have one more new VW Distributor that is part of a full installation set.

I kind of specialize in electrical problems.

On my Texas T dist setup, I buy after market 009 distributors, take out everything under the point plate and run the with the drive simply turning the cam shaft to open and close the points. The grove in the lower distributor body has to be made wider to accomodate the retrained screw Texas T held the distributor from coming up and out. PM me and I’ll show you photos of the modified distributor and also the number of the aftermarket distributor, Easy fix assuming you don’t have a different design from the 6 I have put in cars.

Les, I'm interested, just remove the rotor and wiggle the shaft to see how much play there is across from the point contact area.

Hi James,
I purchase my VW parts from jbugs.com. They have a good tech support for finding out the right parts you need. I have had pretty good results
with their products & I think they sell real Bosch parts also. The venders for model T parts have some parts & their prices are comparable but
if you have a Bosch distributor that is out of the normal type jbugs.com will be a good supplier.
Isn't there anyone repairing accessory distributors? I have modified & repaired some as in Thomas, Atwater-Kent & American Bosch to Bosch 009
conversions but never a Texas T distributor. If 100 year old distributors can be repaired I would think the newer ones could be also.
